Malmö, the gateway to Sweden, has a great cultural diversity. 42% of the population has a migrant background, mainly from Muslim-majority countries. This photo series celebrates creative and ambitious Muslim women from Malmö - their pride, beauty and talent.
“We want to show the world how talented and creative Muslim women are. There are so many misconceptions about who a Muslim woman should be or what she should do, and this often leads to us being ashamed to do the things we love the most” - Naima
I have always liked films based on true events. I‘m not sure if that‘s the reason why I turned to documentary filmmaking. I only know that
I want to explore themes like grief, loneliness and complicated relationships with my documentaries.

One of the things I love most about SAKINA is our ability to show the world how talented and creative Muslim women are. There are so many misconceptions about who a Muslim woman should be or what she should do and that often makes us feel ashamed to do the things we love most. We use our platform as a community for sisters to connect.
Naima - founder and publisher of the magazine SAKINA
It is my ambition to learn more and to know what I can achieve. When I think about my future as a photographer, I am motivated to do many things. When I photograph my friends and work with my images, I feel proud and feel my confidence grow.

The passion to be there for people, to give them a push or support them to change their lives or even bring about a change in society is an indescribable feeling that I will always cherish.
Fatme - social worker and project manager at Save the Children
My work is much needed and very important for this community. Supporting the young people, empowering them and making them feel seen is a fulfilling task. I love the warmth, joy and welcoming energy in this community. It is great to see the hard work bear fruit.
Halimo - social worker and project manager in Rosengård
My art is very much a continuation of me. The issues I struggle with, the ideas that fascinate me but also the change I would like to see in the world. For me, art and politics aren‘t in conflict with each other. My body, my ethnicity, my rights, my art - it‘s all political, it all matters.
Sannah - writer, artist and
art teacher for children
What inspires me about my creative work is the ability to document and eternalize a moment in time that would’ve been feared otherwise.
