2022-ongoing
Rosengård, a district of Malmö, is one of many large housing estates built in the 1960s and 1970s as part of the so-called Million Programme in Sweden. Today, many of these housing estates are considered social hotspots. This includes Rosengård, home to 24,000 people. This district is characterised by a great multicultural and ethnic diversity. The Swedish police classify Rosengård among the “especially vulnerable areas”, generaly characterised by low socio-economic conditions and high crime. Rosengård is often the subject of negative headlines in the media and has since faced a negative stigma and social exclusion.
Since the summer of 2022, photographer Nora Schwarz has been visiting Rosengård regularly. She focuses on the people who live and work in Rosengård. Her photo essay tells of very individual realities and creates visual worlds that document the everyday lives and inner worlds of the residents. In this way, Nora Schwarz tries to create an alternative to the often one-dimensional reporting on Rosengård to also critically question the social perception of this place.
